Urdu letters, numbers and punctuation

Use the letter rows for common Urdu characters and the lower row for Urdu numerals and punctuation such as the comma ، and question mark ؟. The selected character is inserted where the cursor is placed, so you can correct a word without rewriting the whole line. For a reference to letter names and joining behavior, see the Urdu alphabet guide.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install an Urdu keyboard?

No. The on-screen keyboard runs in a modern browser and does not require a system keyboard installation.

Can I type with a physical keyboard?

Yes. Focus the text area and type normally. Use the on-screen keys when you need a character that is difficult to find on your hardware layout.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

It is designed for current mobile browsers. Copy behavior and keyboard suggestions can vary by browser and operating-system permissions.

Why is Urdu written from right to left?

Urdu uses a right-to-left writing direction. The editor marks Urdu text with the correct language and direction so punctuation and cursor movement remain understandable.
